I've had the pleasure of working with a fellow consultant on a mutual client, and wanted to share some of his writings.  I first read his writing "Election Thoughts" shortly after Donald Trump won the election.  Last week, for some reason... I ventured back to his website to read more, and found it enlightening.  It seems my initial conceptions of astrology are likely inaccurate.

Here are 4 of his articles that I want to share:

To Whom it may Concern:
Based on the provided chat transcript (PTD Tech Support), please beware that using This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. email accounts for sensitive communication is not advised. When you call in to PenTeleData (the internet provider for Blue Ridge Cable customers), the technician asks for your account number, phone number, email address, or other means of searching for your account in their system. From that screen, the admin is able to see your email account password in plain text. Therefore, any tech PTD support agent is able to log in and access your inbox - if they so choose - because it’s on the honor system.

This means that essentially ANY email service is going to be a better choice than PTD: even Gmail. If you own a domain name for your business or organization, you should be using an email address like This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., anyways. That generally means your email is running through your hosting company, so the passwords SHOULD be encrypted, there, too… as long as you’ve chosen a reputable host.

As a fan of mixed martial arts (MMA), I have watched almost every UFC event.  I didn't start watching until after 2000, so I've even gone back and watched the "original" UFC events with Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock.  Back then, there were no weight classes.  After 12 events, they introduced weight classes.

Do not purchase these batteries.  I bought my truck in 2014 and it had EverStart Maxx batteries in it that indicated a 10/2013 purchase date.  I assumed these batteries would be good for quite some time since they come with a 5 year warranty.

It turns out that my batteries were originally purchased in 2010, which is why WalMart was unable (unwilling) to replace them under warranty.  The warranty is only good for the original purchase.  I am fine with this part.  I wound up purchasing new batteries from NAPA, since everything WalMart sells tends to be junk, and they don't stand behind their products.

Found this video from my first trip to Paragon Adventure Center when it was in Hazleton, PA.  On this day, the access paths were so icy that we had to use 4wd and drive on the shoulder just to get into the park.  Then we were only able to drive around on the "access paths" because the actual trails were impassible.  This was with my first jeep, a 1990 Cherokee Limited with 3" Rustys Off Road Lift.

Goodbye, Facebook.  Goodbye, Twitter.  Goodbye, Youtube.  Goodbye, MySpace.  Goodbye, Google+.

Angela Merkel caught on hot mic griping to Facebook CEO over anti-immigrant posts

For now, I’m keeping my LinkedIN account up and running because I’ve found numerous clients from it, and I have a handful of good recommendations from clients on my profile.

I’ve been becoming increasingly frustrated with my Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ accounts lately.  It seems that social media is a great tool, but it’s becoming too centralized.  Too corporate.  Newsfeed are censored: unlike traditional communications tools, just because you post something, doesn’t mean that people will actually see or read it.

I’m tired of these large corporations earning a profit off of me, signing into Facebook every day like a sucker.

I recently read this article on CNBC about a company called Beepi.  It’s middleman company that helps you buy a used car from across the country.  It will inspect and take photos of the car you want to buy, and help with delivering it directly to your home.  We recently purchased a vehicle from Alabama (from Pennsylvania) without the use of a 3rd party service like Beepi, and I had a great experience with it, so I figured I would write an article to share my experience and provide some pointers.

These steps and ideas are relevant whether you’re buying from a dealer, or from a private party.  For our purchase, we were looking for a full-size pickup truck; our requirements were a diesel motor, no rust, manual transmission, extended cab, and 8 foot bed.  (Good luck finding a rust-free truck up north.)  We found one on AutoTrader or Cars.com but it was down in Alabama.  Not exactly close enough to go test drive it!

Why I Switched to Prepaid Cell Phone Service

I recently switched my cell phone plan over to a prepaid plan after learning that standard cell phone contracts in the US (post-paid) are extremely common, while in Europe, prepaid plans dominate.

I did some math to find out why all the fuss...

[SOLVED] Cat Pees Outside the Litter Box

I just got done reading another thread online about people discussing having their cat put to sleep because it pees outside the litterbox (link removed, broken), and had to share my insight.  We've been around the block with our cat's "marking" issues... when it started, we had a contractor at the house every day (building our bathroom) and we figured the cat was simply stressed out because her safe zone was violated.  We bought different litter boxes, cleaned them constantly, tried different litters... none of this worked.

When we first brought her to the vet, she had 'crystals' in her urine, and we switched to a higher quality food, designed for urinary tract problems.

Then, we tried spraying "something" that makes the cat think that she already marked that area (according to the vet)....

My PGP Key

Background:
In order to allow for safer electronic communication, I've finally set up my own PGP encryption for sending email.

Don't ask for your privacy. Take it back.
"Mass surveillance is illegitimate. I'm taking steps to take my freedoms back and I expect governments and corporations to follow in my footsteps and take steps to stop all mass government surveillance."

Below is my PGP Key...

I've been using this particular setup for a while now, I've had the GeekDesk for over a year, and the Aeron chair for 5 months.  My favorite part is, as you can imagine, using them together.  I've got a bulging disc in my lower back, so I figured there'd probably be a lot of people who are looking for relief for similar types of issues.

Update Summer 2016: If you are researching a standing desk to alleviate lower back pain, please read my recent article describing my initial chiropractic visits!

Update 9/19/16: I recently helped a client get their Geek Desk set up and rearrange their office, and I have another testimonial to share:
"I just wanted to send you a note to thank you for telling Michael about your desk, and for helping him to get his new desk, and all the computer stuff hooked up!  Without you, he would not have this new chance at less back pain."

  • "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes ... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. ... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. ... They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."
